And the point is not at all in the prevention of sore throat or bronchitis, but in doctors’ concerns regarding synthetic inclusions in this delicacy, which can cause serious allergic reactions.

Ice cream has captured the hearts of those with a sweet tooth since its inception, making it one of the most popular desserts today. By putting our recipes into practice step by step, you will be able to prepare a wide variety of children's ice cream for your beloved children at home with health benefits.

Many pediatricians advise parents to treat sore throats and prevent throat diseases in children with ice cream! It is interesting that for the most part it “consists” of air: it is the air that gives this delicacy its softness and taste, otherwise ice cream would resemble a “hard piece” that is not very attractive in gastronomic terms. At the same time, such a product contains calcium and vitamin A, which means it can really be useful.

According to pediatricians, it is possible and necessary to give ice cream to children. As in any matter involving children, it is important to know when to stop and make informed choices. The most important requirement for ice cream is quality. And it is also very important to know when to start getting acquainted with such a delicacy.

The optimal age for a child to try ice cream for the first time is 3 years.

Many pediatricians recommend introducing children to store-bought treats, including chilled desserts, from a certain age. By this time, the child's digestive system has become more mature, so a new product is less likely to cause an allergic reaction.

However, even for older children you need to choose ice cream carefully. Experts recommend avoiding products with dyes or other chemical additives and choosing dairy (low-fat) ice cream made from natural ingredients for children. As your child gets older, you can offer him a creamy dessert or ice cream. Nowadays soft ice cream is quite popular; you can buy it in a cafe or make it yourself at home. However, experts do not recommend treating your children with such a product, regardless of their age.

Like any new product, you should start offering ice cream to your child with a small portion - one or two teaspoons at a time (it is better to take a melted treat), gradually increasing it. You can eat it every day. The recommended daily dose of sweet cold dessert for a preschool child is about 100 grams (no more than one serving per day).

Children under three years old can also join the ice cream club. For babies aged 2 years, frozen fruit treats are best. The composition should contain fruits or berries that the child has already eaten and was not allergic to. You can also give a low-fat dairy product. Homemade dessert is best.

Contraindications to eating ice cream for children of any age are: intolerance to dairy products, type 1 diabetes, overweight in a child.

Can a child have ice cream if he has a sore throat and fever?

There is an opinion that a child with a sore throat or acute respiratory infection should only be given a little ice cream. Pediatricians and otolaryngologists claim that in some cases it can alleviate the patient’s condition. For example, for sore throat at the initial stage of sore throat. If you eat it in small portions, slightly imitating it in your mouth before swallowing, you will achieve a cooling, analgesic effect.

At a temperature, ice cream works as a natural antipyretic agent. However, it is important not to get carried away and eat it in small pieces.

Doctors say that ice cream cannot cause sore throats or throat diseases, because they are caused by infections and bacteria. It can only sometimes become a catalyst for inflammatory processes under conditions of significantly weakened immunity or the presence of foci of chronic inflammation in the body.

Doctor Komarovsky about ice cream for children

The famous pediatrician Evgeny Komarovsky recommends using ice cream to harden the mouth and tonsils. Regular contact with cold is the best way to prevent sore throats and tonsillitis, says the doctor. He recommends giving the cold treat a few teaspoons a day at first as a medicine. The portion should be gradually increased.

In addition, it is important to remember about the other beneficial properties of this dessert.

Natural milk ice cream retains all the important components of milk: protein, amino acids, minerals and vitamins. Like any other sweetness, it stimulates the body's production of serotonin, which means it improves mood.

However, a famous pediatrician draws attention to the fact that ice cream is a dessert and not a complete meal. It is in this capacity that it can be used between main meals. After eating a cold treat, you should rinse your mouth or brush your teeth to prevent the development of caries.

When choosing a cold dessert for a child in a store, it is important to pay attention to the composition, expiration date and appearance of the product. Usually, children are recommended to eat white, milk or fruit ice cream without dyes or chemical additives. The fat content of the dessert should not exceed 8% (for children). The first ingredient in a natural product should be milk, not water, or fruit in the case of popsicles.

If the label indicates that it is a “milk-containing product” or “a product with a combined composition of raw materials,” then it is better not to buy it.

Look on the label for a note indicating that the product complies with existing state standards (GOSTs).

Do not buy an expired product; make sure that the packaging is intact when purchasing, that there are no ice crystals in the structure of the dessert, and that it is not too soft. This may be evidence of a spoiled product.

To avoid the mentioned health risks for your baby from store-bought ice cream, you can make this dessert in your home kitchen with your own hands.

How to make ice cream for a child at home: recipes

Many mothers believe that it is best to give children desserts prepared at home. This product is completely natural and high quality. Here are a few recipes that can help you prepare a cold summer dessert for kids in your home kitchen.

For preparation you will need:

  • 0.5 liters of milk;
  • 5 tbsp. spoons of butter;
  • half a glass of sugar;
  • 2 egg yolks;
  • half a teaspoon of potato starch (needed to give the finished product a light and delicate taste, helps prevent the formation of ice crystals).

In a small saucepan, combine the butter and milk and heat gently until the butter dissolves. Place sugar, starch and yolks in another saucepan, beat until foam forms. Add milk, stir, place over low heat and bring to a boil. Remove immediately and cool. To do this, you can place the pan in an ice bath. Don't forget to stir the product. Once cooled, pour the ice cream into a container and place it in the freezer for 4-5 hours. To keep it tender, take it out and stir it every 30-40 minutes.

Required ingredients:

  • 200 grams of cottage cheese (fat content 9-15%);
  • 150 ml condensed milk;
  • 50 ml milk;
  • berries, fruits, chocolate - optional.

Combine cottage cheese and condensed milk, beat them into a homogeneous mass using a blender. Add milk and mix everything with a blender again. You can add some chopped berries or fruits that your baby loves, or chocolate chips. Stir gently. Place into portioned molds and place in the freezer for 5-6 hours. After this, take out the ice cream, remove it from the molds and offer it to your sweet tooth.

You will need the following ingredients:

  • 400 grams of cream (fat content 33-38%);
  • 150-200 g condensed milk;
  • 200-300 g of any berries.

Combine the chilled cream with half the condensed milk and beat with a mixer at low speed for about three minutes. Taste the mixture: if it is not sweet enough for your taste, add more condensed milk and continue whisking slowly. Don't overdo it, as heavy cream is easy to over-whip and it will turn into butter. Grind any berries (blueberries, currants, raspberries) in a blender. Carefully combine the berry and milk parts. Place in a container with a lid and place it in the freezer for 2 hours. There is no need to stir such ice cream during the freezing process; crystals do not form in it. After a short time in the freezer, the mixture will not freeze completely, but will become soft. This dessert can be stored in the freezer for a longer time, but before serving it must be taken out for a short time and left in a warm place so that it melts and acquires the structure of soft ice cream.

Ice cream is one of the favorite treats of adults and children. Soft consistency, moderately sweet taste, variety of additives - these are the main advantages of the cold dessert. Popsicles, ice cream, and fruit ice are presented in a wide range, but many of them have age restrictions. Most pediatricians recommend introducing ice cream into children's diets no earlier than 3 years of age. Three-year-old children can be given ice cream in small quantities; preference should be given to ice cream and creamy ice cream. Popsicles, popsicles and options with complex additives are best postponed until age 6. Ice cream for children: benefits and harms

Like any sweet product, ice cream brings both benefits and harm to the body. The main advantage is the high content of milk protein, due to which vitamins, amino acids and minerals enter the children's body. An additional advantage can be useful additives: nuts, honey, candied fruits, which increase the nutritional value of the product. Ice cream is a source of fresh, easily digestible milk; due to the low storage temperature, cold sweets are rarely spoiled. In addition, children are much more willing to eat frozen milk than its equivalent in drink form.

The main harm of ice cream is its high sugar content, which provokes the development of caries in children.

It is not recommended to often consume cold treats due to their ability to suppress appetite: after eating a sweet ice cream or sorbet, the child will no longer want to have lunch. Skipping main meals is very harmful, so it is better to give children ice cream for dessert after lunch - instead of candy. Among the strict restrictions for eating ice cream:

  • Diseases of the gastrointestinal tract
  • Enterocolitis
  • Biliary tract diseases
  • Diseases of the ENT organs
  • Allergy to milk protein
  • Diabetes
  • Overweight.

Ice cream hardening

In small quantities, ice cream can be an excellent way to harden children. To harden a child's throat, you need to give your child a small portion of cold dessert 2-3 times a week. Before eating, it is advisable to defrost the treat a little; slightly thawed ice cream will help avoid hypothermia. You should eat slowly, with a small spoon. Naturally, the hardening procedure is carried out only on healthy children. If you have even a slight cough or runny nose, eating ice cream is strictly prohibited.

What should children's ice cream be like?

Infrequent consumption of ice cream in moderate quantities will not harm the child's body. The main rule is to choose a product with a natural composition. When buying ice cream in a store, you should carefully study the composition indicated on the packaging. The presence of a large number of preservatives, vegetable fats, dyes and flavors should immediately repel.

It is better for a child to buy ice cream without aromatic and flavoring additives. Natural milk ice cream is not only healthier, but also tastier than products made from vegetable fat in bright packaging.

The ice cream with cognac, cookies, meringue, halva, candied fruits and dried fruits is very tasty. Some restaurants serve ice cream made from rose petals, pumpkin, carrots, ginger, coconut, honey and spices. And if you make ice cream yourself, I wonder what will happen?

A few words about the ice cream maker

Sometimes it seems that making it yourself is a very troublesome task, so many housewives buy special electric ice cream makers. This is very convenient - just add the necessary products, set the program, and after a while the ice cream, creme brulee or creamy ice cream with chocolate is ready. The main convenience of the device is that it simultaneously beats the mass and freezes it, since without whipping the mass will not turn out homogeneous, there will be small ice crystals in it. However, not everyone has the space in their kitchen for extra equipment, but that doesn't mean you can't make your own ice cream at home. It is not at all necessary to purchase new kitchen devices; you can whip the cream yourself with a mixer and set the required temperature in the freezer. Today we will talk about how to make ice cream with your own hands, and we will try to do it in a master class. Your family will certainly appreciate this new experiment!

Secrets of making ice cream at home

Ice cream is made from whipped cream, which is mixed with egg yolks, milk, sugar and various additives. Some ice cream recipes for making at home do not contain milk and yolks; in other descriptions you can find cottage cheese and yogurt. However, all cooking methods have common subtleties and secrets that every sweet tooth should know about.

Use only high-quality and fresh products - natural cream, expensive high-quality chocolate, ripe and juicy fruits. The higher the fat content of the dairy products, the softer the ice cream will be, so buy cream with 30% fat content.

Do not forget about thickeners, which are important ingredients in the dessert, because they make its texture soft, velvety and dense at the same time. Gelatin, egg yolks, agar-agar, starch, milk powder or lemon juice are usually used as thickeners - thanks to them, the ice cream does not melt for a long time. Otherwise, after 10 minutes the ice cream ball will leave a puddle of milk in the bowl.

To obtain a more uniform consistency, it is recommended to use powdered sugar instead of sugar, and before freezing the milk mass, you can rub it through a sieve to make it lighter and airier. Before freezing, the mass should resemble sour cream in thickness, since an ice cream base that is too liquid will acquire a watery consistency when finished.

To give the ice cream a more piquant taste, add a little cognac, rum or liqueur to it, of course, if adults are tasting it. Children like ice cream with chocolate, fruit, cookies, nuts, fruit or berry juices. Keep in mind that alcohol will slightly increase the cooking time of the ice cream, and the juices will give it a creamier texture.

All liquid additives (juices, syrups, alcohol) are added to ice cream at the initial mixing stage, but nuts and pieces of fruit are best added after the ice cream has thickened. If you are making ice cream with gelatin, dissolve it first and then heat it.

During the freezing process, you should churn the ice cream as often as possible, ideally every 15 minutes, when it is soft and smooth, leave it in the freezer for another 3 hours or more, it all depends on the temperature. The cooling ice cream is whipped to remove ice crystals. The hardening time also depends on the recipe; different types of ice cream have their own cooking characteristics.

Ice cream is served in beautiful bowls and glasses, garnished with fruits, dried fruits, nuts, chocolate chips, cookies, marmalade or a sprig of mint. You can pour fruit, chocolate, or coffee syrup over the dessert, sprinkle with cinnamon, poppy seeds or cocoa powder. It is very original to serve ice cream in waffle cones, on a stick, in “cups” of fruit or in the form of balls in combination with warm pastries.

How to properly whip ice cream

As already mentioned, the cream must be thick enough, otherwise you will not be able to whip it.

Whip the cream after cooling it in the refrigerator - this way you will achieve results faster. In this case, the dishes and the mixer whisk should also be chilled. Do not turn off the mixer until the mixture thickens, and stop immediately without waiting for fluffy foam, otherwise the ice cream will lose its airy and light texture. You can use a whisk or mixer, although some housewives use the old-fashioned method to pour the cream into a closed container and shake vigorously.

The cream should be whipped slowly, gradually increasing the speed, otherwise you will end up with butter instead of soft cream. Do not beat for too long - as soon as soft peaks appear, gradually reduce the intensity of whipping. It is not recommended to beat in a blender, since its sharp knives cut the mass, which is why it turns out layered.

Master class on making ice cream

Having learned how to make ice cream at home, you will forever forget about store-bought ice cream, since the ice cream you make will be more tasty, appetizing and healthy, because it will contain only natural products. The amount of sugar can be changed depending on your tastes and preferences.

Ingredients: heavy cream - 250 ml, milk - 500 ml, eggs - 5 pcs., powdered sugar - 100 g, vanillin.

Cooking method:

1. Separate the yolks from the whites.

2. Mix the yolks with sugar and a pinch of vanillin, grind well to obtain a homogeneous mass.

3. Boil the milk and gradually pour it into the egg-sugar mixture, stirring constantly so that the yolks do not curdle. First, pour in a couple of tablespoons of milk, then a little more, when half the total volume of milk remains, you can pour it out without worrying about the fate of the yolks.

4. Cook the milk mixture over very low heat for about 2-3 minutes until it thickens and resembles runny sour cream. Do not bring to a boil under any circumstances, otherwise the yolks will cook.

5. Leave the mixture to cool to room temperature, and then put it in the refrigerator.

6. Cool the cream and beat it in a mixer until stiff peaks form.

7. Combine the cream with the milk-egg mixture and mix thoroughly.

8. Pour the mixture into a mold and place it in the freezer.

9. In the first hour and a half, stir the contents of the mold with a mixer every 20 minutes. After this, leave the ice cream in the cold for another 3 hours, repeating the mixing process every hour.

Invite your household to the table and serve ice cream with chocolate, fruit syrup, nuts, pieces of fruit and dried fruits. Isn't it delicious?
